Summary by Car and Driver

Automotive News cites an anonymous source at a major GM supplier, who claims that the three cars will share a platform. All three cars will be built at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Michigan, which currently builds the Cadillac CT5 and CT4, with production of the latter ending in the next couple of months. The Camaro was built in Lansing until it was discontinued after the 2024 model year. We reached out to Chevrolet and Buick for comment, and both companies declined to provide a statement.

The source also stated that the CT5 and Camaro will begin production in fall 2027, with plans to assemble between 60,000 and 75,000 units combined annually. Details about the planned start of production for the Buick sedan remain unknown, but the source stated that GM has requested quotes for important parts from its main suppliers for the Buick.

No other details were provided on the Camaro, Buick sedan, or CT5, but we expect the cars to ride on an updated version of the Alpha platform that underpins the current CT5 and CT4 and was found under the last Camaro. When Cadillac confirmed the CT5 would return, it said that the car would feature internal combustion powertrains, and we expect all three models to opt for gas instead of electric power.

A V-8 remains a possibility for high-performance versions of the CT5 and Camaro, with GM investing $888 million into a plant in Buffalo, New York, last year to build a next-generation small-block V-8. At the time, GM said this engine was destined for full-size trucks and SUVs, but since then, GM has announced a new 6.7-liter V-8 for the 2027 Corvette Stingray and Grand Sport. A version of this engine could appear in the Camaro and a next-generation CT5-V Blackwing.

• Timeline: Production for the shared platform is rumored to begin in Autumn 2027.

Great news!! Since we know the 7th gen Camaro will be built on the Alpha platform and at the Lansing Grand River plant, does that help tell us what kind of form it might be in ? Hopefully this is a sports coupe. Any chance the 2028 Camaro comes in both coupe and sedan form?

The current CT5 has a 116" wheelbase so if they the 7th gen Camaro has same/similar, it could be up to 7" longer wheelbase than the 6th gen. Probably long enough for a sedan, but I'm hoping for a coupe :please:

Looking forward to seeing it, but honestly, I am looking forward to seeing the Buick even more if it ticks my boxes...Been looking for a replacement for my old BMW 550 and I am hoping Buick will build a Grand National or better yet both the Grand National and a GNX type version.

Hopefully we get a coupe with the LS6
Couldn't agree more. I've been debating my next sports car. I'm sure most seen my posts on Camaro6, but after seeing this news, I'm waiting until I purchase my next car.

keep it simple. Unless the 7th generation camaro is a perfect combination of the 5th and 6th camaro, or go retro and look exactly like 2nd generation camaro it will not sell. again. i'd rather chevy bring back the nova or the chevelle. but i have owned two 6th generation camaros and i love them. but, forget performance, thats for the corvette. i could careless about racing the mustang or nuemberg in germany. keep it simple, knobs and switches, no apple car play or andoid auto, V-6 350-400 hp is fine, V-8 455 hp is enought. make it look great, fix the beltline, improve back seat and trunk, keep it around 30-35,000$ max....keep it pony, keep it simple...

Going to disagree with you there. The Camaro or whatever needs good performance. 455 HP will not cut it with 500 hp Mustangs and 550 hp Chargers. If Chevy comes out with a 455 HP (which admittedly, is a heck of a number when you compare it back to 270/300 hp engines of the 90s and 2000s), they might as well not produce it. There is a reason the M5 exists, but more importantly, there was a reason the M550i existed as well. (the new one is just...boring as hell).

Affordable performance is good. but 35k is probably going to be the starter price on the stripped down version with the economy engine. 50k is probably where your non-halo high performance cars are at, topping at 60k. You want a break between it and the vette.

Also, apple and google interfaces are here to stay, especially when manufacturers have such a horrible reputation with maps or even designing a user interface that's intuitive and easy to use.
