This is exactly why people like you should not be building or designing cars and trucks! You ruin the automotive world with your philosophy! Building great cars and trucks should be the goal not what they are called!IMO the basic shape of a car matters much, much more than its internals when applying monikers.
This is not about resistance to change but brand dilution, with GM trying to drum up extra sales by appealing to nostalgia while misleading people into thinking a totally different vehicle is actually a Camaro.
Ford did the same with the Mustang SUV, and it might have made some short term business sense, but in the big picture it's a net negative, because after this stunt "Mustang" can mean anything, which dilutes its long term marketing value.
GM should caall it an Impala Ultra or Chevy SS GTX or some brand new name (after all, recycling nameplates shouldn't be the only option here), and there will be no pushback, simple as that. I would actually welcome an addition like that to their vehicle portfolio, I'm done with SUVs now that the kids are grown, and having more high performance sedan options would be helpful.
BTW I'd love a CT5-V Blackwing, but GM's crazy $40K premium on the V8 vs the TT V6 is the price of a midsize truck.
