IMO the basic shape of a car matters much, much more than its internals when applying monikers.

This is not about resistance to change but brand dilution, with GM trying to drum up extra sales by appealing to nostalgia while misleading people into thinking a totally different vehicle is actually a Camaro.

Ford did the same with the Mustang SUV, and it might have made some short term business sense, but in the big picture it's a net negative, because after this stunt "Mustang" can mean anything, which dilutes its long term marketing value.

GM should caall it an Impala Ultra or Chevy SS GTX or some brand new name (after all, recycling nameplates shouldn't be the only option here), and there will be no pushback, simple as that. I would actually welcome an addition like that to their vehicle portfolio, I'm done with SUVs now that the kids are grown, and having more high performance sedan options would be helpful.

BTW I'd love a CT5-V Blackwing, but GM's crazy $40K premium on the V8 vs the TT V6 is the price of a midsize truck.
This is exactly why people like you should not be building or designing cars and trucks! You ruin the automotive world with your philosophy! Building great cars and trucks should be the goal not what they are called!

I would think a base Camaro with a 2.7 turbo will likely have 340 HP so it should be quicker than the 305hp from the 2015 LTZ 3.6. But I prefer the normally aspirated 3.6 v6 over a turbo 4 any day for its sound and reliability.
So you would take a slower option on a performance car? Hmmm, sounds like they should take that choice away from you! You clearly don't like performance, you like the illusion of power which is pathetic!

I always look at convertibles as structurally inferior version of a better car. It's just my opinion, I'm not going to say someones convertible pride and joy is dumb to them. They didn't have to buy that but something about it stood out to them. Car culture is very broad, and conformity shouldn't be encouraged. Calling a 4 door car a camaro isn't anything more absurd than calling a corvette a corvette even tho the engine is in the back now.
Camaro is just a name, its changed over the years but it was always just a name. Im sure people were mad when it got a hatch back. And when carburetors were replaced with fuel injection, and when t tops was no longer an option. Or when solid axles were replaced with independent suspension.
Change is hard to deal with for most people. But most of the time change ends up being for the better.
If GM puts out another 2 door car. It will fail. It's been said over and over. Enthusiasts don't make sales quota, general population does.
The fact that you think that means you know nothing about cars or tye mechanics behind building them. This is exactly why people like you should not have a voice or a opinion on the matter! If you are going to voice your opinion based on a false statement then it should not be allowed! The real problem is that people like you scream the loudest and automotive companies will pay attention to Ms like you and build cars to make you happy! Which is why the automotive world is where it's at today! So please take up another hobby and leave cars and trucks to people who know what they are doing!

It's a valid opinion, whether one likes it or not. The CT5-V Blackwing is absolutely amazing, but it isn't a sports car. It seems NitroRS24's preferred sports car format and thus his preferred future Camaro is a 2-door coupe (or convertible), not sure how that's ridiculous.

Again, can a sedan be great? Sure, but it's always going to be a family car, just like a 700-hp SUV, no matter the marketing. Different beasts altogether.
If its different then why is it built on the same platform? Your more interested in packaging than the performance of the vehicle! If you so obsessed with having a two door car then why don't you buy a Corvette?

How about we stop pretending you're not crazy, and move on. Look at GM of the past. When camaro wasn't a thing. There was this popular A Body platform. It came in 2 and 4 doors. It was an everyday car that did what everyday cars did. It was NAMED a Malibu. It was widly accepted by the general population, it left a performance door open for those FEW people that wanted a little more out of their everyday car. A different engine, some body accessories and a nameplate that read Chevelle.

Look at the success of the Cadillac CTS platform. 2 door and 4 door on the same platform. Both with everyday version both with performance version. As great as the Camaro was, the malibu out sold it, the cts outsold it. If the platform is going to survive it needs to appeal to a broader range of people.

This is agree with, but what you call each model has zero to do with its success!!!
