"Not nearly as much love for a 4 door as I would have for a proper Camaro."

Same here. A "performance sedan" never really rang in my loins.
The G8 was a good looking car the SS was kind of bland.

I had a V6 G8 I used as a winter car for 4 years the controls and functions were a bit quirky.

Thankfully if this is the direction the choose to go it will have North American switch gear and functions.

I actually preferred the SS over the Pontiac G8 (but I preferred the Formula Firebird over the Camaro). However, both were a heck of a lot better looking than the '06 GTO (still love the first two and a half generations)

The SS had a real sleeper vibe to it. Great for motoring down the highway and not getting tagged instantly as a "performance car" by cops, or stopped and annoyed by idiots trying to race between the lights. Don't get me wrong, I would not toss a G8 out of my garage if I had one, both of these really scratched my itch for a performance sedan. The only reason I never got one is I had just bought new car when they finally came out or more specifically, before any announcement/rumor of them came out.

I see no chance for a mid-engine Camaro based on the infor we have and honestly, I don't see a need for one either. That said, I can see why people want to keep the Camaro as a coupe, but I also don't see a lot of young people buying Camaros either. Most people buying these cars are in their 40s and 50s. With the changes in the economy, people often don't have the resources to buy a three season 2 door sports coupe in addition to their family daily drivers. This means sedans, crossovers, and SUVs. Gotta have room for the kids, dogs, and it has to be able to get you to work every day rain, shine, or snow. These days, people who get weekend cars can either afford a Corvette, or they go to the MX-5 Miata (which can be a lot of fun).
