The US Government killed Pontiac Hummer Saturn ect during the bail out.
Buick has big brand recognition in China and sold a lot of cars there thats how they survived.
The Gov even wanted to axe GMC trucks but relented
Bob Lutz fought hard for Pontiac and resigned when he lost.
A lot of enthusiasts and auto writers said it was too big and heavy(Gen5)
Then they complained the Gen6 was too small inside and you couldn't see out of it.
You can never please some people.
GM also changed platforms and plants in 2016.
Oshawa Ontario Canada did the 5th and East Lansing did the 6th
Brampton Ontario did the Stellantis Quartet Magnum Charger Challenger and 300
They also used a Mercedes derived chassis for them and thats why they all weighed 5-600lbs more than a Camaro.
Lots and Lots were fleet sales to Police Services and Rental companies.
The also offered an AWD option.
GM backed away from the fleet sale game they felt the margins were too low.
The design isn't a problem
The Camaro got the chrome and the Buick got blacked out
I just think it should be the other way around unless Buick brings back the GN and GNX names
The G8 was a good looking car the SS was kind of bland.
I had a V6 G8 I used as a winter car for 4 years the controls and functions were a bit quirky.
Thankfully if this is the direction the choose to go it will have North American switch gear and functions.
The trunks on the Gen 6 are tiny
The 5th has usable trunk but its still small.
The only problem with hatch backs is body rigidity hatch creaks and the weight of the glass.
Are they going to make that thing out of sheet molded compound?
There is no way they can stamp those compound curves.
BTW what would that exotic contraption sell for? 100k?
While extremely beautiful I fear sticker shock.
Thats why GM had brought it up in the first place to make an entry level car for the younger crowd.
Of course the Vette guys would vote it down
The FRC wound up costing almost as much (within $500.00)as the removable roof panel Vettes.
