Vette is mid engine. How about a 350 hp Fiero style Camaro, Just for a generation of course.

You likely won see such a thing. First, we’ve been told it’s off Alpha2 so mid engine isn’t in the current plan or future.
maybe we will get lucky and some big wheel at gm can roll out a "Fire Arrow" that fits the bill.

The Chevy SS was direct competition to sedans like the BMW 550, which retailed around 60-70k at the time. The SS was a great car for its time and was never given a good environment for sales.

Around the time the SS same out, I was really upset with my BMW 550 issues (the original N63 engine, nuff said) Chevy dealership and asked about the SS, they always assumed I was talking about the Camaro. When I specifically said the SS, not the Camaro SS, I was told by several dealers that "why would I want to drive a malibu when I was looking for a performance car"

Chevy obviously did not educate their dealers, or the dealers had so little hope of actually getting one that they were trying to drive sales to something they could get.

As a result, I dropped out of the market, had my injectors replaced a 4th time, and then a few years later had the engine replaced under the class action settlement (yeah, one where the consumers actually got a good outcome, not just the lawyers), and drove it for another 9 years before it became uneconomical for upkeep and repair. By then the SS had gone away.

I've not found a new car that can hold a candle to the BMW 550, the later M550, or the Chevy SS in terms of a solid highway cruiser that also gives you great performance at a less than M5 price. The i5 M60 is close, just not enough range and too slow on charging. I am hoping that somewhere between the Charger, the Ford Mach 4 (mustang based sedan), or the new Chevy/Buick, I will find that again.
I agree 550 is the perfect adult car. maybe if i ever get some throw away money i can get a used one. i dont trust their reliability tho.
