New article / report as of April 13, 2026

https://gmauthority.com/blog/2026/04/chevy-camaro-replacement-body-style-everything-we-know-so-far/

Summary

1. Platform and Architecture
The most significant confirmation is that the Camaro successor will utilize the GM Alpha 2 platform. This is an evolution of the highly acclaimed rear-wheel-drive architecture currently underpinning the Cadillac CT4 and CT5.
  • The "ICE" Factor: By choosing Alpha 2 over the electric-only Ultium platform, GM is signaling that the next Camaro will prioritize internal combustion engines (ICE).
  • Driving Dynamics: This choice ensures the vehicle maintains the front-engine, rear-drive proportions and sharp handling characteristics that defined the sixth-generation model.
2. Body Style: The "Unexpected" Shift
While the Camaro nameplate is synonymous with a two-door coupe, the report indicates the replacement will be "something unexpected."
  • Four-Door Potential: Industry insiders strongly suggest the vehicle will transition into a four-door performance sedan.
  • Strategic Sharing: This move allows Chevrolet to share development costs with the next-generation Cadillac CT5 and a newly planned Buick sedan, both of which will share the same platform and assembly line.
3. Powertrain Expectations
Because the Alpha 2 platform is designed for longitudinal gas engines, the powertrain lineup is expected to mirror GM’s current performance sedan offerings:
  • Engine Options: It is highly likely the car will feature a mix of turbocharged four-cylinders and the 3.0L Twin-Turbo V6.
  • The V8 Question: While not explicitly confirmed, the platform can accommodate a small-block V8, which remains a possibility for high-performance variants to compete with the Ford Mustang.
4. Production and Timeline
  • Manufacturing: Production is slated for the Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan. This facility has historically handled GM’s RWD performance vehicles and is being prepared for this new trio of Alpha 2-based cars (Chevy, Cadillac, and Buick).
  • Launch Window: The vehicle has been officially green-lit and is expected to debut as a 2027 or 2028 model year vehicle.
5. Nameplate
  • Sources say that GM would be hesitant to slap a “Camaro” badge on a 4-door given that enthusiasts identify the Camaro as a 2-door body style.
  • The final name is still under consideration.

These are probably early conjectures, but a 4-door sedan is not a Camaro. If that's all they're planning to offer, GM should give it a different moniker.
